Times are changing fast in the tinsel town with much-hyped films boasting of superstars failing to impress the movie goers. On the other side, small budget films without an ensemble cast are winning the hearts the moment they hit the theatres. That says it all. Bring novelty to the content or face rejection. At least, the success of Badhaai Ho and the failure of Thugs of Hindostan underpin the statement.
Thugs of Hindostan
The Amitabh Bachchan-Aamir Khan starrer Thugs of Hindostan released with enormous hype built largely on the power-packed teasers and trailers that broke the Internet when they were released by the makers. Given the overwhelming response, everyone including the producers had expected the movie to rake in big numbers at the box office.
Well, the opening day collection of more than 50 crores had brightened hopes only to lose afterward. Yes, the second day saw a decline of 45% and a 15%-20% on the third day. With the decline, it seems doubtful whether the movie is able to recover a tall budget of 300 crores. The movie has minted over 100 crores so far. But given the decline it has been witnessing, the film might just fall flat from Monday onward, causing concern for all those involved.
The film is nothing but a Bollywood version of The Pirates of the Caribbean that have been made in so many series in Hollywood. The film may have the impressive graphics that are required to make a film of such grandeur. But failing to narrate a unique story has meant movie lovers are increasingly drifting away from the latest offering from Yash Raj Films.
Come on you big Bollywood production houses, you can’t win on designs and graphics alone, the novelty in the story is far more important to supplement the technical brilliance and be successful. Hope you all learn the lesson and dish out fresh stories for the audience to hear and get excited about.
Badhaai Ho, released about 3 weeks ago, surprisingly surpassed the audience expectations and generated box office numbers that have made producers laughing all the way to the bank. The movie has collected more than 111 crores so far, thus reinforcing the importance of a fresh script.
The movie, which has Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao and Ayushman Khurana in lead roles, rides on a unique tale of romance between an old couple living with their two young kids of which one attains the age of marriage. Neena Gupta gets pregnant playing wife to Gajraj Rao.
It’s something not being explored earlier and so the audience has been showering their love all over. The movie is still earning in crores and looks like it will stay at the ticket windows for a few more weeks before ending its run.
