Recently, the debut pair of Jhanvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar stole the show with Dhadak, a remake of the Marathi blockbuster Sairat, raking in moolah at the box office.
As per the latest report, the movie has minted close to 75 crores, a remarkable feat considering the fact that it was a debut film for these two actors.
However, the success of debut pairs is not new to Bollywood. There have been quite a few successful debut pairs that brought magic with their first presence on the silver screen. Hey, just gossip out on those pairs without any further delay.
Kumar Gaurav-Vijeta Pandit
Who can forget the Love Story starring Kumar Gaurav, the son of veteran actor Rajendra Kumar, and Vijeta Pandit released in 1981. The film, which is still considered as one of the most heart touching romantic films to date, earned both critical acclaim and box office success.
It was the year 1989 when cine goers saw the first glimpse of Prem alias Salman Khan in an evergreen love story Maine Pyaar Kiya opposite Bhagyashree who also made a debut with the film. The film, which is still a rage among the fans, went on to do an astounding business of 15 crores in its box office run, helping it earn the status of a blockbuster.
Ajay Devgan-Madhoo Raghunath
Two years later in 1991, another star was born with Phool Aur Kaante. Yes, it’s Ajay Devgn who created impression in his very first scene by standing on two running bikes. Giving him the company was Madhoo Raghunath, an actress famously known her roles in films such as Roja. The action film went on to collect around 7 crores even as it was pitted against the classic Lamhe starring the hit pair of Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. As things would have it, the film was a runaway success.
Arjun Kapoor-Parineeti Chopra
The 2012 romantic thriller Ishaqzaade, starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, was their debut lead film. Parineeti was earlier roped in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl to play a supporting role. The film, made on a budget of 12 crores, made an estimated business of 65 crores, giving these two actors the big push they needed to move on from there.
